Who finds support at ReYu?

We support a diverse community of clients with a wide range of neurological conditions.

For adults, this may include spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, strokes, multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitis, and more.
For children, this may include sensory processing disorders, cerebral palsy, or rare genetic conditions.

What if I have an Injury?

If you have an injury or any discomfort before your session, let your trainer know right away. Your sessions should never cause pain, and your trainer can tailor the workout to work around any issues you have safely.

What If I have a pressure sore?

Let your trainer know about any pressure sores. They can provide guidance based on the location and severity of the sore.

Can I receive coverage for the session?

We are listed under Kinesiology or Exercise Therapy. Some plans have coverage for this. We are not covered under physical therapy, as we are not physiotherapists.

Where can I Park?

There is plenty of free parking available on site. We have four large accessible stalls on the west side of the building.

How Will I Feel After the session?

The brain work we complete at ReYu can often making you feel tired. We encourage naps as the nervous system heals with rest! You may also have some muscle soreness. Bring up any concerns you may have with your trainer.

Is A Couple Hours a Week Enough To be Effective?

Our trainers work to make each session with clients as effective as possible. However, home exercises—often called “homework”—are an essential part of the recovery process and should be practiced regularly in your own environment. Performing exercises at home that align with your goals greatly supports your progress.

Since clients typically have only a few hours per week with our trainers, using the recommended strategies outside of sessions helps maintain momentum. Trainers will suggest a certain number of hours per week for home practice, but you are welcome to commit as much time as you like.

How did ReYu get started?

ReYu began in 2013 when Bean, a woman living with paralysis, sought more than traditional therapy offered. After discovering a neurorecovery program in California that yielded remarkable results, she returned to Edmonton and connected with trainer Nancy Morrow to implement a home-based program. Their success led to the establishment of ReYu Paralysis Recovery Centre, co-founded by Bean and Nancy on February 27, 2017. The centre officially opened its doors on April 3, 2017, renting space from the Parkinson Association of Alberta. The name “ReYu” reflects the mission to “Reconnect, Retrain, and Redefine” individuals, helping them become elevated versions of themselves. Today, ReYu has grown to a team of 12 staff members, serving over 300 clients, with a 5,300 sq ft facility in Edmonton. The centre continues to expand its services, including a children’s program, and remains dedicated to promoting neurorecovery through innovative therapies.

Why do kids cry in their sessions?

Kids may cry for many reasons, and during their sessions, crying often shows they’re doing really challenging work. This work can be tough not just on their body, but also on their brain. New exercises can feel overwhelming and frustrating.

Every child’s cry has a reason, and the sounds can be different depending on why they’re crying. If a child is in pain, the trainer can tell by the cry’s sound. Most of the time, though, the crying means the child is facing a hard or challenging task, not that they are in pain.
